Urinary Tract Infection In Women

Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infection in Women

Testing and Treatment for UTI in Women

Urinary tract infection or UTI is one of the most common infections that affect women. In the course of her lifetime, a woman may encounter more than one case of urinary tract infection. Despite repeated warnings from health experts that urinary tract infections by themselves are not something women should be concerned about, the infection can cause a great deal of pain, which becomes very annoying and will get in the way of her activities. Nonetheless, an infection is still an infection and as such, it requires medical attention.

Testing UTI in Women

The most common and private way for testing a woman if she has urinary tract infection is through using a dipstick. A dipstick is a special testing kit that will allow a woman to test herself at home. It can be easily bought from any drugstore in the same manner as buying pregnancy test kits.

When using a dipstick, a woman may hold the stick against a urine stream or she may dip it into her urine sample. The strip can test for the presence of nitrite in the urine, which is an indicator of a urinary tract infection. This is because nitrite is around only when there is the presence of bacteria. And when there are bacteria in the urine, it is a sign of urinary tract infection.

what causes a urinary tract infection,in women?

I have suffered with that all my adult life. In my case, my ureter is too small and does not vacate all the urine, therefore there is always a little water left and the slightest thing can cause infection. I was told by my doctor that I could not sit in a tub, so I have had to shower, Having sex, especially oral sex will give you an infection because the mouth is actually more germy than the rear end. That infection is a discomfort that drives me crazy. Oh, by the way, make sure you are wiping yourself from front to back when you go to the bathroom, not back to front. Just keep a good urologist on your payroll because you are a person who will need antibiotics and peridia often. Good luck.

Is this a urinary tract infection? (women only please)?
I normally have the bladder of a camel and can go hours without having to pee, but the past week i have been going constantly, like today i went three times in about 15 minutes. could this be a urinary tract infection? and if it is how soon do i need to treat it? i don’t have any health insurance right now and no way to get free medical, and i’m not sure when i will have insurance. also, my stomach is very sensitive to the touch and feels bloated, though it’s not really any bigger. can this be a symptom of a uti? or could these be symptoms of a possible pregnancy? please help!!
as far as the possibility of being pregnant, i have sex with my fiance often and we don’t use protection because i’m allergic to the latex and we can’t afford non latex condoms

In the past when I’ve had a UTI/blatter infection it has come with lots of pain when you go to the bathroom I mean A LOT of pain. I don’t think it would pregnancy you normally don’t start going to the bathroom often until the baby gets bigger and applies pressure to your bladder.
I would see a doctor. Look up your local Planned Parenthood clinic in your area. They offer low cost woman’s health care and Pre-planning. I think an exam costs around $60 and you can get birth control pills for like less then $10 bucks a pack.

Can a women get a urinary tract infection from primarily having sex?
My wife and I havent been active in a while and she seems to get utis when I;m away on business. She usually gets uti-s after intercourse. Am I crazy to think she is cheating on me?
ok she seems to get them when she wont answer her cell phone…..she says shes going out with friends but Im not so sure about that……

You can get utis many ways. Poor eating habits. Not drinking enough water. Eating certain types of food. Smoking. Bubble baths. Strong soap. Colored underwear. Thongs. Sex toys. If I eat a lot of sugary sweets, I’ll be a canditate for one. Hope this helps.

What are some OTC medication for a urinary tract infection in girls/women?
I’m 13 and pretty sure i have one, but i dont really want to go to the doctor…
I went to the bathroom like 4 times in the past hour and a half and it’s really hard to pee and kind of hurts, and when i do pee, hardly anything comes out.
Are there some otc medications i can take, or just drink lots of water and cranberry juice and it will go away??
    p.s. i’ve never had a urinary tract infection before…

I have suffered through a TON of urinary tract infections, and there is NO medicine that will treat it over the counter. There is AZO standard, that will help with the burning and irritation, but it WON”T go away on its own. Trust me, I waited and didn’t go to the doc, and i ended up with a kidney infection a few weeks later. It might feel like it is gone, but it is just moving through your system. Please go to the doctor, so you can get some antibiotics, it is the ONLY way for a UTI to go away.

Also, if your scared about going to the doctor, it is not bad at all. All you will have to do is go into the bathroom and urinate in a cup. They test your urine and then you get some meds and you are done. No exam or anything, so nothing to be scared of… :)

What causes urinary tract infection in women?

    • cp71800 says:

Bacteria in the urethra. Ways for this to happen is not wiping properly which is front to back or even sex can cause a urinary tract infection. You need to go to your doctor to have this cultured and get a prescription for antibiotics, but to prevent this use good hygiene when going to the bathroom and drink cranberry juice not the cocktail.
